Sunday Church, Ride, & 5K Brick Run

CHURCH
The Sermon at church was entitled "Breaking down Ministry Barriers" (Eph 2:14-18) ... And our minister added a humorous example of a barrier ...

When he was in India, he said that elephants are now coming out on to the roads and blocking traffic ... well actually they are holding the cars hostage until they get food ... after you give them food they let you pass ... and if you don't immediately give them food ... but have your windows rolled down ... they will stick their long trunks into the car and search for food ... He said that is an example of a moving barrier ...

WEATHER
Well, we have decided that the weatherman gig must be pretty good ... because it is obvious that accuracy (or the lack thereof) is not much of a concern ... after the weather fiasco on Saturday ... Sunday didn't start out much better ... It was supposed to be in the low 50's and sunny by 11am when we started the ride ... instead it was mid 30's and fog that was just starting to lift ... (although the sun did come out soon after the ride started and the temperature finally warmed to near 50 ... but to the predicted 60's)

We decided that it was great to be "out there" when the temperature was actually starting to warm up even if only moderately.

Sunday evening, I talked to a good friend of mine, Richard W, who has moved to Ohio.  He solved the cold weather problem and cycling a week ago.  He packed up his bike and flew to San Diego for the long 3-day MLK weekend for some fantastic weather and cycling ...

I think I will have to work that into my plan next year ...

RIDE
We (John C, Susan B, & Jo S.) met at Two Rivers Park for a 39 mile ride.  We rolled out easy for a warm up and then Jo took off like she was on a mission ...

We finally got back together at Hwy 300 and I made a 5 mile pull to Roland at over 90% of my current ability ... after reaching Roland we made a couple 8 mile loops for about 45 minutes at about 85% ... I "chased" Jo the last half each of those loops ...

John was taking it easy on us due to a "twinge" in his knee that he has been dealing with ...

Run
After the ride, John & Susan had to leave ... but Jo & I did a 5K brick run on the Two Rivers trail ... We did the first couple of miles at around 9minute pace ... talking ... but then cranked it down under 8 minute pace for the last mile, with the last half mile under 7 minute pace ... the best that I have felt at that pace for a while ...
