A Little Basketball & a Little Cold-Windy Cycling

SATURDAY
Since it was very cold & windy early, our Saturday ride was scheduled for Noon instead of 7am.

Basketball
The good thing about that was it gave me just enough time to watch grandson Alex play basketball.  His team was playing the only other undefeated team in their league,  a team of all girls.

The game was close all the way, with Alex's team eeking out the win.  There was several good girls on the other team ... but they sure abused the fact that they don't call fouls in this league.  I saw Alex dribbling the ball several times with a girl hanging on his other arm.

One time they knocked Alex down seperating him from the ball and took off for the layup ... but he got up and ran the length of the floor and blocked the shot.

Cycling
After the basketball game, I rushed home to put on the pile of clothes that I had already layed out to wear for a 50 mile ride with the temperature at a "balmy" 36 degrees but with 15 mph wind ... that made a windchill in the low 20's.  (Note: you can get an idea of the wind by looking at the American Flag standing straight out in the upper left background of the cycling photos below).

The good news, yes it was sunny ... And we had 4 of us riding, including Mira, Norman, Paul, & myself ...

The cold wasn't so bad ... with the big pile of clothes (photo shown below ... except I also wore leg warmers not shown) ...

Had a good 10 minute interval heading south toward Scott ... but the nasty/gusty crosswinds weren't so much fun ... especially when you are crankin' along at 25-28mph on the aerobars ... and one of those crosswind gusts hits you ...

And then finished up the ride with a 5 minute interval (in the small chainring & spinning a cadence of 100 rpm) at about 23 mph

Mira's blog post for the ride is at http://miralelovic.blogspot.com/2008/01/its-cold.html and her humourous post from last Saturday's ride is http://miralelovic.blogspot.com/2008/01/you-have-to-turn-it-to-burn-it.html
